Frozen banana stands have been appearing around London and New York to promote the return of popular TV series, Arrested Development.
The show, which centres on a family run frozen banana business, has long been unwittingly promoting the coolest fruit around, and this latest stunt has put bananas in the spotlight once more.
Customers in Manhattan and London queued for hours to enjoy a frozen plain banana, or one covered in chocolate, proving that the big yellow fruit has star a-peel (sorry…) and can draw the big crowds.
If you’re wondering how one would go about creating a frozen chocolate banana, never fear! The BanaBay blogger has got you covered:
You will need:
115g dark or milk chocolate, chopped
2 tsp vegetable oil
8 mini bananas, peeled
8 frozen wooden lollipop sticks
70g chopped toasted nuts
Place an empty egg carton upside-down on a baking sheet. Cut 8 small holes in the top of the rounds, big enough to hold the sticks.
Put the chocolate into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave the chocolate on high, stirring occasionally until melted –This should take about 1 to 2 minutes, depending on your microwave. Stir in the oil and cool slightly.
Skewer the bananas with the lolly sticks, dip the bananas into the chocolate mixture, and freeze until the chocolate sets slightly (about 2 minutes).
Roll the chocolate bananas in the nuts, and freeze until firm (about 4 hours). Serve frozen.
If you just want to keep it simple, literally take a bunch of ripe bananas and pop them in the fridge, yummy, healthy, summer snack!
