Mike Edwards Gets Silver in the British Championships
We are very proud of our Brand Ambassador Mike Edwards who scooped a silver medal at the high jump on Sunday at the Sainsbury’s British Championships.
Held at the Birmingham Alexander Stadium, the county champ had to cope with very changeable weather in pursuit of his title – his first major competition in the outdoor season.
Up against the very best in the field including Robbie Grabarz, Mike went clear at his first attempt on 2.01, 2.06, 2.11 and 2.16 heights and this reduced the pack of contenders from 12 down to 7.
Then just as the semi final of the men’s 100m crossed the finish line Mike cleared the bar at 2.20 which put him in first position.
As 2.24 was set up just 5 athletes were in the running with 3 attempts at the level. Sadly the skies which had been threatening finally gave way to a thunderstorm complete with lashing rain, hail and lightning. Time to take a temporary break for safety reasons!
Around 20 minutes later, the surface water was swept away and it was back on with the signature turquoise trainers. Mike was leaping and stretching to warm up for 2.24 but the break had put him and other competitors off their stride. He passed at the level and went on 2.28. Only Robbie Grabarz was able to clear the bar and he went on to take gold.
Mike shared his silver crown with Chris Kandu and David Smith but what a showing? We see great things in his future. Well done Mike.
